From Aug. 17 through Aug. 20, the Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour’s two legs will depart from Columbus, Ohio and Sioux Falls, South Dakota to get a close up look at crops throughout the Corn Belt. The Ohio Ag Net’s Ty Higgins will be along for the ride on the eastern leg sending back updates with coverage sponsored by Fennig Equipment.

“The tour’s primary goal is to provide the industry with accurate late-season information about likely corn and soybean yields during the upcoming harvest season at the state and regional level,” Higgins said.

The Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour has grown, not only in the number of states it visits, but also in the number of people that take part as crop scouts. On the first year for the tour 23 years ago, there were 14 participants. This year there will be over 80 scouts on each leg, with 12 routes on the eastern leg and 10 routes on the western leg, covering 25,000 to 30,000 miles.

Higgins will provide continuous updates with radio broadcasts, pictures, videos and conditions as his group heads west through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota. His coverage will be posted at ocj.com in real time. The updates will be posted on the website throughout the four days of the tour.
